Overview
For my project, I traveled to Fallon Nevada during spring break (2018) to job shadow as a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA). I worked Monday through Friday and spent eight hours a day on average at the hospital. There was the possibility of being called in during the night for an emergency procedure and I would follow whichever CRNA was on call but this did not happen. I worked in the operating room and observed both the job of the CRNA and the many surgeries (for my enjoyment) that took place. Since I have taken several courses related to this field, (anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology) I was able to understand the basic structures of the surgery and what the anesthesia was doing to the body and its therapeutic effect. I kept track of my daily routine and what surgeries I observed. This opportunity helped me become a better worker in my desired field. Also, it helped me develop my soft skills and get accustomed to a leadership position in a healthcare setting. This is why I chose the leadership center.
